Why You Might Not Want to Buy a Metal Roof From Us
Not every metal roofing order belongs at our shop. Here's when the big box store is the right call — and when it isn't.
Sometimes the big box store down the road is the better move — same day, off the shelf, no waiting on anyone. It's a real option, and it's the right one for a real type of customer. So let's start there.
The weekend project
Say it's a Friday afternoon and you're building a backyard chicken coop. You need three sheets of metal, you need them this weekend, and you don't want to think about it again until Saturday morning. In that case, a trip to the big box store probably makes sense.
Most big box stores keep a small shelf inventory of metal roofing: preset lengths — 8, 10, and 12 feet are typical — in two or three colors. You walk in, grab a few sheets, and walk out the same day. For a small, quick project, that's hard to beat.
The trade-offs of shelf stock
The flip side is that shelf stock comes with some catches. You're limited to whatever lengths and colors they happen to keep on hand. The stock can be picked through. And because sheets get slid over each other in the rack, the ones lower in the stack can carry scratches or scuffs — so you'll be sorting through to find clean ones before you load up.
How we do it
We don't keep retail shelf stock. We keep coil. Every panel we sell is rolled from coil to your exact specifications at our shop in Westfield, MA, then cut, stacked, and handled with care.
Our standard turnaround is 24 to 48 hours. It works like this:
You order → we roll your panels (and any custom trim) → you pick up or we deliver.
That means you get exact lengths — no shimming, no cut waste, no fishing around for clean sheets. It means your flashings and drip edge actually fit, because we roll custom trim to match. And it's still fast, because we're a local manufacturer. We're not waiting on metal shipped in from out of state with one- to three-week lead times; we roll in-shop and get it to you in a day or two.
Small orders are welcome. No minimums, no attitude about it. The only real difference when you buy from us instead of off the shelf is the 24 to 48 hour timeline. There's nothing of yours sitting on a shelf before you order it — that's the point.
Which one is right for you?
If you need metal this second for a quick backyard project, the big box store is the practical answer. Grab the sheets and go.
