Our two standing seam profiles share the same colors, 24 gauge metal, and trim line. The main difference is how they handle thermal expansion — and that comes down to the length of your panel runs.
- Nail Flangegenerally recommended for shorter panel runs, 16 feet and under.
- Snap Lock (with Striations)recommended for longer runs over 16 feet. Snap Lock panels always include striations — tiny press-formed ribs that control oil canning — and fasten with a hidden clip system instead of a nail flange.
What is oil canning?
Oil canning is the visible waving or rippling in the flat areas of a metal panel, caused by expansion and contraction as temperatures change. The striations in Snap Lock panels control where expansion and contraction happen, and the hidden clip system lets the panel move with temperature changes without putting pressure on it — so longer runs stay flat and clean over time.
